London ~ Brighton Kit & Sports Car Run

Sir Stirling & Lady Moss at start
A Run for all Kit, Replica and Sports Cars

THE FIRST LONDON ~ BRIGHTON KIT CAR RUN in 2001 attracted over 200 kit, replica and sports cars from across the UK, and is now an established highlight in the kit car calendar.

Organised by Greenwood Exhibitions, who have been running the London ~ Brighton Classic Car Run for the past 22 years, the event is a memorable day out, ending on Madeira Drive, Brighton’s famous seafront road, which is closed to non-run traffic.

Bluebell Railway

The run is a touring assembly attracting cars from all over the UK.  With a fully detailed “tulip” style road book, entrants drive at their own pace through picturesque villages and along unspoilt country roads to the official stopping point, Bluebell Railway.  Enjoy the nostalgic atmosphere at the first preserved standard gauge passenger line in the world.  This railway has an unrivalled collection of steam locomotives (30 trains and 100 carriages) making it an ideal break to buy lunch, visit the museum or go on a short steam train journey.

After a relaxing break, perhaps a picnic or lunch in the restaurant, entrants continue their scenic route to Brighton.  A different route every year gives drivers the chance to explore some of Southern England's finest scenery at their own pace with fellow enthusiasts.

Greeted by our commentator and up to 20,000 spectators, the run joins the Classic Run, who have been on a different route, on Brighton’s famous seafront road, Madeira Drive, where the atmosphere is electric.

The Route

A new route is devised every year giving entrants the chance to discover the beautiful villages and unfamiliar picturesque country roads in this delightful area of Southern England.

Stopping Point

Bluebell Railway, Sheffield Park Station, Uckfield, East Sussex.  Sheffield Park Station is the headquarters of the Bluebell Railway with its unrivalled collection of steam locomotives.  In August 1960 the Bluebell became the first  preserved railway.  Run participants can enjoy a walk around the engine sheds bringing you to close quarters with the engines at rest, awaiting restoration or their next turn of duty.  You can visit the small museum, a treasure trove of those little bits and pieces that were once commonplace on a train journey; or sample the experience of a steam train by taking a 15-minute ride.  Full catering facilities are available on site at the real ale bar, The Bessemer Arms, featuring appetising home-made food.

Madeira Drive, BrightonThe Finish

Arriving in Brighton from midday onwards the participating cars make a spectacular display on the picturesque seafront road Madeira Drive, which is closed to non- event traffic for the day.
